Mind & Muscle releases 2026 State of Baseball Mental Training report, reveals widening gap between pro and youth adoption

February 14, 2026

Mind & Muscle, the AI-powered mental training platform for baseball and softball, today released its inaugural "2026 State of Baseball Mental Training" report, a comprehensive analysis of mental training adoption, performance impact data, and technology trends across every level of organized baseball.

The report reveals that while 100% of MLB teams now employ dedicated mental performance coaches and the global sports psychology services market has reached $1.85 billion, fewer than 15% of travel ball organizations and fewer than 25% of high school varsity programs provide any structured mental skills training for their players.

"Mental training has been fully adopted at the top of baseball but barely reached the grassroots," said Mind & Muscle. "The gap between professional baseball and youth ball is wider in mental training than in any other area of player development. Physical tools, biomechanics instruction, and strength training have trickled down effectively. Mental training has not."

Key report findings

  • The sports psychology services market reached $1.85 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $3.45 billion by 2033 (7.2% CAGR)
  • The sports mental drills sub-market is projected to quadruple from $300 million to $1.2 billion by 2032 (18% CAGR)
  • 70% of youth athletes drop out of organized sports by age 13, with performance anxiety and burnout among the top reasons
  • Players who use structured mental training show measurable gains in batting average, walk rate, and chase rate within one competitive season
  • AI-powered mental training technology is the fastest-growing segment within the sports technology market, projected at 22.5% CAGR through 2032
