Jeff Butt, Founder of Mind & Muscle

Jeff Butt

Founder, Mind & Muscle | Former Ohio State Athlete | Business Executive | Parent of Competitive Athletes

I've spent most of my life around sports. As a former Ohio State athlete, a father of two competitive athletes, and someone whose family spans generations of high-level competition β€” including a grandfather who spent 13 years in Major League Baseball β€” I've seen firsthand what separates athletes who thrive from those who struggle.

It's rarely talent alone.

The biggest difference is often what happens between the ears. How athletes handle pressure. How they respond to failure. How quickly they regain confidence after a mistake.

Mind & Muscle was built to help young athletes develop those skills before they need them in competition.

Physical training builds athletes.

Mental training builds performers.

Coach Gerald Bautista

Hitting Coach, Aberdeen IronBirds (MLB Draft League) | Former Professional Baseball Player | Son of an MLB Player

Gerald Bautista spent nine years competing in professional baseball, including time in the Cleveland Guardians organization and independent leagues. Today he serves as the Hitting Coach for the Aberdeen IronBirds of the MLB Draft League β€” developing the next generation of professional hitters at the highest level of pre-MLB competition.

Professional baseball quickly teaches one thing:

Physical ability gets you to the field.

Mental toughness keeps you there.

Gerald works with hitters at every level β€” from youth travel ball athletes to professional prospects β€” helping players develop efficient mechanics, confident approaches, and the mental routines required to compete under pressure.

His coaching philosophy blends professional playing experience with modern player development principles, preparing athletes for the next level.

Why Mind & Muscle Exists

Youth baseball and softball players compete in one of the most demanding youth sports environments.

Travel teams

Showcases

Year-round competition

Recruiting exposure

Constant performance evaluation

Yet the mental side of the game is rarely trained. Most athletes are told to:

β€œStay confident.”

β€œFocus.”

β€œBe mentally tough.”

But no one teaches them how.

Mind & Muscle exists to solve that problem. We built a practical mental training system designed specifically for baseball and softball athletes navigating the modern travel ball environment.

Just tools athletes can use in real game situations.

Our Approach

Confidence

Learning how to step into the box or onto the mound believing you belong there.

Focus

Developing routines that allow athletes to stay present and locked in pitch by pitch.

Reset Ability

Mistakes happen in baseball and softball. The best athletes know how to reset immediately and compete on the next play.

Competitive Mindset

Developing the mental habits that allow athletes to compete with composure and intensity.

What Makes Mind & Muscle Different

Built for Baseball & Softball

Mind & Muscle is not a generic mindset app. Every routine and training exercise is built specifically around situations athletes face on the field β€” handling strikeouts, preparing for big at-bats, competing on the mound, responding after errors. Everything is designed for the real moments that define games.

Built by Coaches, Not Tech Companies

Mind & Muscle wasn't created by a software startup trying to enter sports. It was built by people who have coached, played, and competed inside baseball environments. We understand the mental side of the game because we've lived it.

Practical Mental Training

Most mental training programs focus on theory. Mind & Muscle focuses on actionable routines athletes can use immediately β€” between innings, in the on-deck circle, before stepping onto the field. Mental training should work during competition.

Accessible to Every Athlete

Private sports psychology coaching can cost $100–$200 per session. Mind & Muscle makes those principles accessible to athletes everywhere through a structured training platform. Mental training should not be reserved for elite programs.

What Athletes Develop

Athletes use Mind & Muscle to build the mental skills that separate talented players from consistent performers.

The Modern Travel Ball Reality

Today's baseball and softball athletes compete in an environment that looks very different than it did a decade ago.

Year-round travel teams

Recruiting exposure

Showcases and tournaments

Performance pressure at younger ages

The physical training opportunities have exploded.

Mental training has not kept up.

Mind & Muscle exists to close that gap.

The Mind & Muscle Philosophy

Physical training builds ability.

Mental training allows that ability to show up when the game is on the line.

Athletes who develop both gain the true competitive edge. That's the philosophy behind everything we build.

Train Your Mind Like You Train Your Body

The best athletes understand that confidence, focus, and composure are trainable skills.

Mind & Muscle helps baseball and softball players develop those skills. Start building the mental edge today.
